Biden Revokes the Mexico City Policy

We knew it would happen, but the reality is still gut-wrenching.

Today, as we mourn the Supreme Court decisions that decriminalized abortion, we also mourn the decision of our “Catholic” president.

Yes, our taxpayer dollars will now fund abortions on a global scale.

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci: “It will be our policy to support women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights in the United States, as well as globally. . . . To that end, President Biden will be revoking the Mexico City Policy [which requires that overseas organizations that obtain aid from the US not promote abortion] in the coming days, as part of his broader commitment to protect women’s health and advance gender equality at home and around the world.”

Reproductive health? Gender equality? Reproductive rights?

These terms are bandied about like they are good and noble virtues. Yet we know that abortion is not a right. We know that abortion hurts women—both physically and mentally. We know that abortion kills a baby. And gender equality? That argument for abortion makes no sense either.

While males and females should be treated fairly, they are not the same. And that’s okay! Their differences are what make each person unique and amazing. Women are blessed to carry babies. Teaching and advocating for women to kill their babies so they can be more like men, so they can get ahead in the workforce, or so they can do whatever they want is suppressing one of the most beautiful differences between men and women. And it’s denying a whole class of people—about half of whom are females!—the right to life. Biden and Harris say they stand for women’s rights, but what about the rights of the baby girls who are mercilessly slaughtered in abortions? Furthermore, isn’t telling women that they must be more like men discriminating in itself? Why not embrace and honor the differences between the two sexes?

In addition, taking our tax dollars and sending this money overseas rather than using it to better conditions or lives here in the US is disgusting and irresponsible. Think of all the good this money could do in our own country to help mothers and babies. Think of the programs and the aid we could give to our countrymen who really need it.

We are well aware that Biden considers abortion necessary and part of healthcare. But perhaps someone needs to show him a dictionary. According to Merriam-Webster, healthcare is defined as “efforts made to maintain or restore physical, mental, or emotional well-being.” It is obvious that the death of a baby doesn’t fall anywhere near this definition.

With all that our country has gone through this past year and with all the people who hurt because of COVID restrictions, loss of jobs, isolation, and decreased income, one would hope that a new president would focus all his energy on taking care of the people in his country.

But Biden chooses to focus on making sure people in other countries can kill their babies at our expense. That is hardly a Catholic action.

1 Corinthians teaches: “Do everything for the glory of God.”

As Christian people, we must heed these words. We must take responsibility for making sure our words and actions—all of them—glorify God. As we look at Biden’s actions, we know that his do not.

So what can we do?

This is just the first in a long line of Biden policies that will undo the pro-life policies of Trump. And as sad as it is, we must not despair. We must redouble our efforts to build a culture of life. It’s not going to be easy. We may be scoffed at. We may lose friends. We may even face persecution. But now is not the time to remain silent. Now is not the time to just accept the actions of a man whose policies spit in the face of God. And now is not the time to allow culture-of-death forces to win.

We know that the devil prowls about the world seeking souls to devour. He has a stronghold on many in our society. But Christ’s light will prevail. And we must be the conduit to help it prevail.

To that end, we must take action, and we must educate. Let us start with our children and ourselves, then educate others. Our primary goal must be to raise generations of people who will not stand for the slaughter of innocent babies and the devaluing of human beings. We must help our children combat the secular world they are growing up in. American Life League’s Culture of Life Studies Program has dozens of pro-life lessons for kids k-12 to help you do this.

When we don’t educate, and when we ourselves don’t learn how the damage is done and then do something to correct it, we render ourselves powerless to stop the evil.

Beginning today, on this somber anniversary, make a promise to yourself, to God, and to the babies to speak out. Lives depend on us. Indeed, the future of our country depends on us. And if we don’t speak now, we may find ourselves living in a time when we are no longer allowed to speak.
